GRADUATE EXAMINATION DATES 2007-2008

Master of Music Diagnostic Examination

Required of all Master of Music degree students prior to the first semester of graduate study. Master of Music students may not perform graduation recitals nor take final comprehensive master's examinations until all of the diagnostic examinations have been successfully completed.

Master's Qualifying Examination

For Master's degree students majoring in Composition, Music History, Music Theory, and Music Therapy. Required upon the imminent completion of 30 semester hours of graduate study and with the approval of the major advisor. Music Therapy students should see Dr. Dileo for specific examination times.

Master's Comprehensive Examination in Music Literature

Also known as the "100 Listening Examination", this exam is for all Master of Music degree students whose admission was effective during or after January 1985. This is an Exit Exam, taken in your penultimate or final semester of master's study.

Doctoral Entrance Examination

Required of all entering DMA or Ph.D. students prior to or during the first semester of matriculation. All Entrance Exams must be passed or appropriate remedial coursework be in progress to register beyond the second semester of doctoral coursework.

The dates listed below are for doctoral students in Performance, Composition, and Music Education only. Students majoring in Music Therapy should contact Dr. Kenneth Bruscia at 215-204-8314 for the list of Music Therapy Entrance Examination dates.

  • August 20-21, 2007 (for DMA in Performance, Composition, and Ph.D. in Music Education majors only)
  • October 15-16, 2007 (for DMA in Performance, Composition, and Ph.D. in Music Education majors only)
  • January 17-18, 2008(for DMA in Performance, Composition, and Ph.D. in Music Education majors only)
  • June 5-6, 2008 (for DMA in Performance, Composition, and Ph.D. in Music Education majors only)
  • August 25-26, 2008 (for DMA in Performance, Composition, and Ph.D. in Music Education majors only)

Doctoral Preliminary Examination

Required of all DMA and Ph.D. candidates. All "Incompletes" must be resolved before you will be permitted to sit for these exams. Please notify Mr. David Brown at least one month prior to the date you wish to sit for these examinations so your exams can be prepared by the faculty.
