Professor Cynthia Folio Receives Teaching Award

Dr. Cynthia Folio, Associate Professor of Music Theory, will receive the Music and Dance Teaching Academy Award at the Boyer College Commencement Ceremony On May 16, 2013.

The MADTAC Committee, consisting of fellow faculty members, selected Dr. Folio as this year's recipient, who will receive a $2,000 cash award.

Dr. Folio has also been honored by Temple University with the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Creative Achievement Award.

She is a prolific and highly sought after composer, whose work has been commissioned and performed by virtually every recognized musician and music ensemble in the region and elsewhere.

Her work has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Humanities,  Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, nineteen consecutive ASCAP Standard Awards,  Meet the Composer and the American Music Center.

As a theorist, Dr. Folio Cynthia has published numerous music theory articles, reviews, and chapters in books, on topics that focus primarily on the analysis of jazz, the analysis of contemporary music, and the relationship between analysis and performance.

As a flutist, she performs regularly as a soloist and in several groups in the Philadelphia area, including Latin Fiesta, David's Harp, the Silver and Wood Trio, the Philadelphia Classical Symphony, and the Temple contemporary music ensemble, Glaux
