The Music Preparatory and Enrichment Program of Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance

The Center for Lifelong Learning

Individual Lessons in voice and more than a dozen instruments give children and adults an opportunity to discover and develop their musical potential with a faculty of outstanding music professionals.

Early Childhood Music Foundation classes offer young children, infants through 5 years of age, the building blocks for continued musical education and growth. Parents or caregivers who attend with their child also learn to recognize and nurture their child's musical strengths.

Dance classes introduce young people (3 years through teens) to the basic principles of dance movement, encouraging them to move creatively. Students develop rhythm, coordination and flexibility, enhancing a child's natural joy in movement.

Suzuki Instruction in cello, violin, guitar and piano involves parent and child in weekly individual and alternate week group lessons for learning "the language of music." (Recommended for children 4 through 8 years of age.)

Teens enjoy classes in guitar, basic musicianship, modern dance, and ballet.

Adult classes in performance and appreciation expand the music horizons of both beginner and music buff.

Refer to our Pathways to Success for Very Young Children (see below) to assist with choosing classes for your child.*

The community music scholars program

This program provides a comprehensive curriculum of jazz and classical music instruction (orchestral instruments only) for school-aged Philadelphia children who have limited financial means. Potential students must be recommended by their school music teacher in order to be considered for participation through an annual audition process. The Community Music Scholars Program is an initiative of the Music Preparatory Division of the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. Another opportunity within the Community Program is the Philadelphia String Project at Temple University which provides string instructions to elementary school aged children.

The Center for Gifted Young Musicians

For gifted young instrumentalists the Center offers challenging musical training at the highest level and a variety of performance opportunities.

Focus in the Center for Gifted Young musicians is placed on nurturing superior musical ability in orchestra and chamber ensemble performance under the guidance of the finest artists/teachers in the region.
