PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNTIES

Students in the Department of Voice and Opera have numerous opportunities to perform with small and large ensembles that appear on campus as well as a variety of local, national and international venues. These include Tomlinson Theater, The Prince Theater, Lincoln Center, The Academy of Music, and The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.  Students have had the opportunity to participate in master classes with such performers as Håken Hagegård, Barbara Bonney, Jerome Hines, Dalton Baldwin, Benita Valente, Denyce Graves, Elly Ameling, Lorenzo Malfatti, Mitsuko Shirai, and many others.

 The Temple University Concert Choir, Singers, and Chorale perform a broad spectrum of repertoire from chamber vocal music to large masterworks for chorus and orchestra. Graduate Conductors' Chorus and the Recital Chorus are smaller ensembles that perform under the direction of graduate students in the Choral Conducting Program.

In addition to solo appearances with the choral ensembles,the following are solo singing opportunities for Voice and Opera Majors. Voice students may participate in student recitals, studio recitals and degree and graduation recitals. All voice and opera majors participate in the weekly studio voice class supervised by Temple Voice Faculty. All music students may participate in the annual student soloist competition with the winners performing with the Temple Symphony Orchestra or Wind Ensemble. The Opera program offers two to three fully staged operas with orchestra each year. Students perform major and minor roles as well as chorus.  Please see the Opera page for more details. In addition to the Opera program, senior undergraduates and graduate students participate in Opera Studio class that culminates in undergraduate and graduate performances of scenes each semester.
