Dimeglio 7:36 P.M. * Introduction of Louise Anderson * Guest Speaker: Louise Anderson       - Background             - has taught all education levels including special needs             - department chair for K-12 music             - often asked to teach violin lessons, singing lessons, etc.             - music teaching truly a K-12 job             - has master’s degree                   - teaches high school humanities additionally       - Why technology?             - difficult to find a day in which you used no technology             - will be expected to use technology in some form             - some districts will give technology competency “placement tests”       - Practical applications- really useful       - Ethical issues             - teachers confuse personal technology with professional technology             (Cell phone, internet, etc.)             - difficult fine line       - Electronic devices in education             - Computers, controllers, recording components, cameras, cell phones,    sound systems, projects, “smart boards”, stereo components, lighting    systems (italicized items indicate challenges to music teachers)             - Music teachers must request technology                   - must be tech savvy       - Computer software             - tools for communication and organizing                   - e-mail, internet, word processing, databases, grades programs             - music part of job                   - itunes, Pro Tools, sequencing, Finale/Sibelius, GarageBand             - itunes                   - practical application                          -buy music (variety)- preview so that music is appropriate                         - copy cd                         - burn cd- takes money from artist                         - set up playlists for classroom lessons                         - view podcasts                               - have students create podcasts             - recording/composition software (ex. GarageBand)                   - ethical issue: editing                   - student performances                   - assessments                   - student compositions                   -create podcasts                   - record auditions                   - make rehearsal cd                   - performance recordings                         - ethical issue: mechanical rights                               - selling recording violates copyright law                         - make cd for parents and students                         - students perform with recording accompaniment                         - student self-evaluation                         - teacher evaluation             - grades programs                   - confidentiality                         - no student to student allowed                         - trading papers for grading is not allowed                   - complete visibility                         - parents can see as teacher enters grades                   - justification for teacher actions                   - timeliness                   - eligibility                         - for sports teams, etc.                         - based off school district requirements             - word processing/databases                   - newsletters                   - calendars                   - permission slips                   - phone numbers/addresses                   - concert programs       - The Internet             - school computer is school property                   - user has no right to privacy                   - every site visited is tracked                   - read Fair Use Policy carefully             - websites                   - YouTube                   - appropriateness and subject matter                   - validity and reliability of site material                   - MySpace and Facebook                         - pictures of amoral activities could result in job loss                         - suggested to delete these sites                         - checked by administration before hiring                   - State Code requirements for teaching                         - available online                         - “1.
