ENSEMBLE AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Students in the Department of Jazz Studies have numerous opportunities to perform with small and large ensembles that perform on campus as well as a variety of local, national and internal venues, including Lincoln, Kennedy and Kimmel Centers for the Performing Arts, Mellon/PSFS Jazz Festival and the East Coast Jazz Festival.  Students have had the opportunity to participate in master classes and clinics with such jazz masters as Billy Heath, Max Roach, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Dr. Billy Taylor and Boyer faculty members Terell Stafford, Bill Cunliffe and Dick Oatts. 

The Department of Jazz Studies sponsors faculty recitals and the Visiting Artist Series of concerts and master classes.  Recent recitals and master classes have been offered by Tom Lawton, Mulgrew Miller, Wes Anderson, Nnenna Freelon and Carla Cook.
