Percussion Workshop Recital

All students taking private lessons must perform in this recital at the end of the semester.  The workshop recital takes the place of the normal instrumental department juries.  A student performing  a solo work on a prior faculty juried recital or a student performing a junior or senior recital during the same semester will be excused from performing in the workshop recital.  The level of performance in the workshop recital is factored into the final grade for the semester.

Sophomore Qualifying Jury

All Applied (performance) majors are required to perform a comprehensive jury prior to the completion of their fourth semester of lessons.  This jury is in addition to the workshop recital.  The purpose of this evaluation is to determine whether the student has the ability to complete the percussion curriculum, has the potential for advanced study, and has the potential for becoming a performing musician.

Senior Recital

The Senior Recital is the final musical requirement for the Applied (performance) curriculum.  As a final project, it represents the culmination of normally eight semesters of work.  Final permission to perform a Senior Recital is determined by the successful performance of a representative recital piece during the semester immediately prior to the semester for which the recital is planned.  This would normally take place during the workshop recital.

If it has been determined that a student's performance in the Workshop Recital is not sufficient for granting permission to complete a graduation recital, the student may be asked, at the discretion of the faculty, to perform a comprehensive Instrumental Department Jury examination.

Masters Recital

Final permission to perform a Masters Recital is determined by the successful performance of a representative recital piece during the semester immediately prior to the semester for which the recital is planned.  This would normally take place during the workshop recital.

If it has been determined that a student's performance in the Workshop Recital is not sufficient for granting permission to do a graduation recital the student may be asked, at the discretion of the faculty, to perform a comprehensive Instrumental Department Jury examination.
