The program offers a flexible curriculum encompassing a rich array of core courses, as well as specializations in Cultural Studies and Dance Education Studies, including Pennsylvania 7-12 Dance Teacher Certification. Our comprehensive program offers courses in dance curriculum, teaching, cultural studies, research, advocacy, administration, dance science and somatics, technique, improvisation, composition, and aesthetics. Master of Fine Arts

The Master of Fine Arts in Dance develops choreographers and dance artists who are in command of their idiom as a basis for meaningful aesthetic statements. The MFA program emphasizes appreciation and comprehension of the body in movement; sensitivity to personal artistic qualities and sources; interdisciplinary perspectives; mastery of craft; and an awareness of the social, cultural and historical implications of dance. The program educates dance artists who balance the ability to realize their own creative potential and aesthetic with an awareness of the societal implications of their work.

The faculty has a commitment to integrate a purely artistic approach to dance and dance-making, and a more holistic view of the human being in a cultural context. An important objective of the MFA program is that each student develops a personal aesthetic, which manifests an understanding of his or her place in the world.
