7-12 Dance Education Certification in PA

Please note: We are not accepting applications for the EdM program

7-12 Dance Certification track for Fall 2008.

Temple University is the first provider of educational programs leading to dance teacher certification in the State of Pennsylvania.  Dance Education Certification is a program aimed at preparing professionals to teach dance in a 7-12 classroom setting.  Certification programs are aimed at the experienced dancer (a minimum of two years paid work experience in studio teaching or as a professional artist is a pre-requisite).  The amount of college coursework will be based on the applicant's professional background experience.

There are basically two certification tracks:

UNDERGRADUATE

A. If you do not have an undergraduate degree and are currently teaching dance in a 7-12 classroom, you will need to apply for the 60 credit certification program.  These 60 credits can also be applied toward a Bachelor's Degree in Education.

B. If you do not have and undergraduate degree and are not teaching dance in a 7-12 classroom, you may apply for the Bachelor's Degree in Education.  This degree will qualify you to apply for certification in Dance 7-12.

GRADUATE

A. If you have an undergraduate degree and are currently teaching dance in a 7-12 classroom, you must complete a prescribed graduate certification program leading to Dance Certification 7-12.  These certification courses may also be applied toward the Master of Education in Dance degree.

B. If you have an undergraduate degree and are not teaching dance in a 7-12 classroom, you may apply for the Master of Education in Dance degree.  This degree will qualify you to apply for certification in Dance 7-12.
