Q.

What music background is necessary to apply?

A.

Boyer students must have extensive musical ability to apply for a music degree program.

THEORY: All undergraduate music applicants will take music theory examinations at the time of their audition. Although these tests are used primarily for placement in music theory classes, the results are also used in the making the final admission decision.

The music theory test is administered in two parts. One part tests aural theory dictation skills, and the other part tests your knowledge of written theory.

PIANO: All music majors are required to pass a piano proficiency exam before graduation. Four semesters of class or private piano are a required part of the curriculums for all music majors.

All undergraduate music students will take a piano proficiency examination prior to their first semester of study. This exam is utilized for placement in the appropriate piano class or private lesson.
