Graduate Assistantships | Doctoral Fellowships | Financial Aid

 


Temple University’s tuition rates reflect a subsidy from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The difference in base tuition between Temple and other institutions should be considered when comparing financial aid offers from colleges.

Graduate students in the Boyer College of Music may apply for several types of financial aid. 

Unless otherwise noted, awards are open to both master's and doctoral students.  However, scholarships, fellowships and assistantships are generally NOT awarded to students enrolling in the Professional Studies Certificate Program. 


Graduate Fellowships & Teaching Assistantships

Available in Aural Theory, Choral Conducting, Computer Music Synthesis, Marching Band, Music Education, Music History, Music Therapy, Opera, Piano Accompanying, and Performance (Keyboard, Instrumental, and Voice).

 

Deadine for Assistantship applications: March 1

Stipend: $14,559 (2009-2010 figure) plus full tuition remission; health benefits included; renewable for a second year.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned baccalaureate degree (minimum 3.0 G.P.A.), must be accepted into the Graduate School of Temple University, and must be recommended by the appropriate department.

Responsibilities: The total commitment is not to exceed 20 clock hours per week. In the case of classroom teaching assistants, the maximum load is six credits per semester. Responsibilities extend from September 1 through May 31.

Partial available in the areas listed above, and vary in amounts of 25%, 50%, and 75% portions of a full award.


Doctoral Fellowships

Available in Composition, Music Education, Music Therapy and Performance.

Deadine for Fellowships applications: February 1*

*Please note that doctoral students must be fully admitted to the doctoral program by this date to be considered for a University Fellowship.

Stipend: Up to $20,000, plus full tuition remission.

Qualifications: Same as for assistantships/internships. See above.

Responsibilities: Assignments are in appropriate proportion to award. Responsibilities extend from September 1 through May 31.


Financial Aid

Prospective graduate students may apply for need-based financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Priority deadline is March 1.  Temple's Graduate School FAFSA Code is E00349.
