Incoming Undergraduate Students
Once you have been accepted to Temple and the Boyer College of Music and Dance, paid your tuition deposit and housing deposit, it is time to arrange for Orientation. For registration information, please visit the Temple Orientation website.
Within the Temple University Orientation, students will have a full day of orientation with the Boyer College of Music and Dance. There is no separate registration required. During this time, students will, under the guidance of staff advisors, register for their first semester of courses, lessons, and ensembles.
Note: Incoming dance students must register for one of the dance-specific orientation dates, as determined by the dance department. Please email the Dance Department for more information.
At this Boyer-specific orientation, all incoming music majors will take a piano proficiency examination. This exam is utilized for placement in the appropriate piano class or private lesson.
All incoming Music majors are also required to take a Music Theory Placement Examination, which will be offered online and must be completed prior to attending orientation. This examination will determine which level of Music Theory the student is to be placed into. Students who do not successfully pass this examination must enroll in remedial Music Theory courses for the first year of study. Incoming students who have received a 4 or a 5 on the AP Music Theory Exam are excused from having to complete this examination, as they are permitted to skip Music Theory I or can enroll in Honors Music Theory I.
