Graduate Audition/Interview
Information The Graduate Audition/Interview Day consists of a technique class divided into sections of modern, guided improvisation, and African dance; a 3-5 minute solo of an applicant's own choreography for MFA applicants or a 5-7 minute presentation on a topic of interest for EdM and PhD applicants; an on-site writing sample for PhD applicants; and an interview. The technique class is optional for PhD applicants. Audition/Interview dates and application deadlines for the 2011-2012 academic year: Saturday, January 14, 2012 Audition/Interview date for University Fellowship & Graduate Assistantship consideration. Saturday, February 11, 2012 Audition/Interview date for University Fellowship & Graduate Assistantship consideration. All application materials, including your Dance Departmental Applications, are due two weeks prior to your audition/interview date. To schedule your audition/interview, please email dance@temple.edu with your first and last name, preferred date, and your nine-digit TUID number. The faculty attempts to choose students with physical, artistic, and intellectual potential to enter and complete the dance program. The faculty is concerned that potential students' goals and aspirations are supported by the department philosophy, maximizing success in the program. The Graduate School will mail admission decisions once the university application and dance application requirements are complete.
Video Auditions
If necessary, MFA and Ed.M applicants may send a video with any example of their work, in lieu of attending the audition in person. The video must include the 3-5 minute self-choreographed solo performance (MFA applicants) or 5-7 minute presentation (EdM applicants). An interview is not needed.
PhD applicants who do not have the option of attending an on-site audition may send a video of any example of choreography and/or performance work. The video should also include the 5-7 minute presentation on a topic in which the applicant is interested and wishes to pursue. Ph.D. applicants must also schedule a phone interview by emailing dance@temple.edu. In the email, please specify your availability.
