TT Appointment in Music Education (Vocal/Choral Emphasis)

POSITION: Full-time appointment in Music Education

RANK/SALARY:  Assistant/Associate Professor, tenure track appointment in the Department of Music Education and Therapy. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Teach undergraduate courses in vocal/choral music education and conduct a curricular choral ensemble; teach and/or develop graduate courses related to the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs; teach and supervise research at the graduate level; maintain a visible profile as a researcher, scholar and presenter; develop and maintain connections with area music educators and prospective students; demonstrate a commitment to diversity and community engagement; provide appropriate service to the College and University; advise undergraduate and/or graduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS:   A completed doctorate in music education or choral music education is required; a minimum of 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in PreK-12 settings; a knowledge and practice of current trends in choral pedagogy is also required; a specialization in one of the following will be considered:  world music, technology, urban music education or vocal jazz pedagogy.  Candidate must be an accomplished university-level teacher, researcher, and/or conductor with an established publication and presentation record.

RESPONSIBILITIES:    The Boyer College of Music and Dance seeks an outstanding artist-teacher with professional performance experience and a vision for building a premier collegiate opera program.  Duties may include: serve as director of the Opera Theater program and coordinator of the MM in Collaborative Piano / Opera Coaching degree program; teach undergraduate and graduate students in opera theater, opera workshop, and collaborative piano; recruit and retain graduate piano students in opera coaching; teach related courses in diction, operatic literature, and/or other areas of interest.  The successful candidate will demonstrate significant potential for appropriate contribution to the field through creative activity and/or scholarship.

QUALIFICATIONS:Graduate degree preferred (professional equivalency will be considered); professional and academic conducting experience in opera preferred; outstanding performance and/or scholarly accomplishments; reputation as an outstanding teacher and musician.

Responsibilities:    The Department of Music Studies seeks a qualified individual to serve as a full-time non-tenure track faculty member of Music Technology within the Department of Music Studies.   Courses taught will be undergraduate and graduate courses in music technology.

Qualifications:   Doctorate preferred, in a music discipline, such as Composition, with significant advanced coursework and/or activity in music technology. The successful candidate will have at least three years of teaching experience at the college level in such areas as music technology; sound synthesis; sound recording and editing; scoring and audio design for film, digital media, and video games; digital signal processing; music printing; psychoacoustics; physical computing and electronic instrument design. Preference will be given to candidates who show demonstrated experience leading contemporary and electro-acoustic ensembles and who have an active research/creativity agenda and record of publication and/or performances.

Responsibilities will be to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music technology, and possibly to provide administrative oversight of the music technology program.

Assistant/Associate Professor Appointment: Dance

POSITION:  Full time tenure track appointment - Dance

RANK/SALARY:   Assistant/Associate Professor appointment in Dance.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Department of Dance seeks a tenure-track faculty member with a rich artistic, scholarly, and performance practice grounded in Africanist philosophical and cultural aesthetics, including neo-traditional and/or contemporary African diasporic forms. Teaching will include undergraduate and graduate studio courses and theory seminars and integrated theory/practice seminars. Areas of expertise could include: Black Performance and Theory, African Diaspora Dance in the Caribbean, Popular Diasporic Dance Forms, Contemporary African Dance, The Body Politic, The Umfundalai Technique, and Hip-Hop Dance Practices. Other areas of expertise within African Diaspora Dance will be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS:    MFA or PhD in Dance or a related discipline. Ability to inspire students with diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated evidence of successful university teaching in various levels of African, African American, and/or African diaspora dance forms, in choreography and performance, and in two theoretical areas, such as: black aesthetics, dance history, dance anthropology, critical pedagogy, critical race theory, cultural studies, community studies, environmental dance.

Applicants are expected to be outstanding teachers, maintain a dynamic research agenda and record of publication, and engage in appropriate service to the College, the University, and the profession. The Music Therapy Program at Temple offers the BM, MMT, and PhD in Music Therapy.  In addition to the presently announced position, the program has four full-time, tenured faculty (Drs.
