Suni Petersen graduated with her Ph.D. in Family Therapy from the University of Florida in 1997. She is both an experienced clinician and an NIH-funded researcher. Her research focuses broadly on the reduction of health disparities for minorities. More specifically, she studies how people process health information and how this processing leads to the decisions they make about health behavior. Her studies investigate basic processes as they are applied to cancer prevention, treatment, and life style change for cardiovascular risk factors and cancer prevention. Her clinical experience includes medically involved families, death and critical incident recovery, and couples’ relationships, derived from her work in private practice, Hospice, and community mental health. She also trained school systems throughout the south in crisis response planning and recovery.
