Dr. Thomas Gordon is Professor of Public Health in the Department of Public Health at Temple University, where he established the Ph.D. concentration in Health Communication. Dr. Gordon specializes in multivariate statistical modeling, with an emphasis on perceptual and cognitive mapping techniques. His research interests include psychoneuroimmunology and the role of cognitive processes in the modulation of immune and endocrine function. Prior to joining the Public Health faculty, he taught courses in Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology and continues as a Graduate Faculty member in Temple's Neuroscience Program. He teaches courses in health communication, research methodology, and health psychology at the graduate and undergraduate levels. While a member of the School of Communications and Theater, Dr. Gordon served as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs and as founding Director of the Mass Media & Communication Ph.D. Program. Dr. Gordon recently served as Senior Research Consultant to the National Cancer Institute's Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch, and is an Advisory Member of Fox Chase Cancer Center's Behavioral Medicine Program. Dr. Gordon's recent publications and presentations have focused on the development of "action plans" for implementing the Health Communication Objectives of the Healthy People 2010 initiative, which defines the Nation's Health Agenda and sets national goals to be met by the year 2010. He is working closely with the federal Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion in this effort. On the international scene, Dr. Gordon is the founding and current Editor of Communication Abstracts: An International Information Service. Now in its 25th year, this service has become the premiere research information resource for the field of communication research.
