BCM&D Records announces its latest release with "Luck Be a Lady: A Tribute to Frank," featuring Terell Stafford (trumpet), Dick Oatts (alto saxophone) and the Temple University Studio Orchestra. The recording features a new arrangement commissioned by the Boyer College from Grammy winner, Michael Abene. Andreas Delfs conducts.
The work was premiered at the Temple Performing Arts Center by the Temple University Jazz Band in 2015 as part of a 100th birthday celebration honoring Frank Sinatra. Some of Sinatra's biggest hits, including "It Was a Very Good Year" and "Fly Me to the Moon" are included in this arrangement of nine songs.
Michael Abene has produced such Grammy winning projects as “Digital Duke” featuring the Duke Ellington Orchestra, an arrangement of “America” from “Dave Grusin Presents West Side Story,” and Patti Austin's Grammy winning album, "Avant Gershwin."
The Temple University Studio Orchestra consists of students from the Temple University Jazz Band and the Temple University Symphony Orchestra. Both ensembles recently performed together at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts (March 26) and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York (April 8). Read the New York Concert Review.
Robert T. Stroker, Dean and Vice Provost for the Arts at Temple University, is founder/producer of BCM&D Records, which has released more than 30 recordings by large ensembles and faculty-- three of which have received Grammy nominations.
