Note to Volume Three Index
The following index of personal and political place names does not include names in the “Sessions List: The General Assembly of Pennsylvania, 1757-1775,” pp. 101-116 (except for names in the notes), or names in the list of “Standing Committees of the Pennsylvania Assembly, 1757-1775,” pp. 119-127. Nor have names been indexed that appear in Appendices 3, 4, 5, and 7. Names in boldface are those of individuals with biographical essays or listings in this volume; boldface page numbers indicate the location of that individual’s biography or listing. Names in italics are those of individuals with biographical essays in Lawmaking and Legislators in Pennsylvania, volumes 1 and 2, and legislators who serve after 1775. The editors have attempted, wherever possible, to identify different individuals who have identical names. Some individuals may be indexed under more than one familial relationship. Also, numerous individuals indexed in the two previous volumes, who had a familial relationship with an assemblyman in those volumes, who also appear in this volume, will be indexed below in relation to assemblymen in this volume (where any such relationship exists). Because of the changing county boundaries in Pennsylvania, some townships and towns are listed under more than one county. All townships, wherever possible, are listed with their county, while all cities and towns are simply listed with their colony or country. A boldface page number indicates where a given subject is discussed in “Lawmaking in Pennsylvania, 1757-1775, Themes and Issues,” and “Selected Characteristics, Legislators of Pennsylvania” and the graphs and charts following, and where a term is defined or explained in “Appendix 1: Glossary.” Aaronsburg, Pa., 899, 906 Abbot, Benjamin, 39 Abend, Rosemary, 42 Abercromby, James, Maj.
