Purchasing Software

While there are no "required" applications needed to study within the Architecture Department, there are several software packages you may consider purchasing to make full use of your personal computer. Currently the Architecture Department provides the following software packages on all public workstations within the department:

Non-Commercial (Free) Licenses, And Apprentice Editions
Several software companies now provide commercial-grade programs free to students. Please note that you must read the EULA (End User License Agreement) which typically allows you to use the software for academic (no-profit) work only. Some packages (such as Houdini and Maya) contain watermarks within the rendering outputs.

SideFX Houdini http://www.sidefx.com Non-commercial edition of Houdini's award winning procedural software for modeling, animating, shading and lighting, rendering, creating special effects and compositing.

Graphisoft Archicad 10 http://www.graphisoft.com An Educational version of Archcad 10 drafting and modeling software free to students and faculty.

Open Source Software
Many people are moving towards Open Source software both for the cost (typically free) as well as the support available from the developers and community at large. Below are links to several software packages you may wish to download and work with. All of these packages are free, but are to be used at your own risk.
