Admissions

Freshman And Transfer Students With no previous college level architecture experience
Although a portfolio is not required for admission, it is recommended if you feel it will enhance your overall application package. The portfolio should document your previous interest in Architecture and the visual arts and can include both work completed as part of an organized class, and work you have undertaken independently. This could include drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, computer modeling, graphic design or any other artistic expression which demonstrates your craftsmanship and creativity.

transfer students from other college-level architecture programs
If you are seeking advanced standing (placement above the first design studio) you must submit a portfolio of work you completed in your previous college-level design courses. The portfolio should offer a complete look at the breadth of projects, media and software programs explored in each design studio. Process drawings and unfinished work can be included. The portfolio will first be reviewed in relation to your admittance to the Temple University Architecture Program, and then reviewed more specifically by the Architecture Program Director to determine studio placement. The Architecture Program will not review portfolios of students who have not applied to Temple University and cannot guarantee advanced standing regardless of the number of transfer credits.

portfolio specifications
The portfolio size and format are flexible. The student should use their best judgment in determining how their work is best showcased. Below are some general guidelines:

+ Original work should not be included; submit photographs or reproductions.

+ The portfolio should clearly list the student’s name, address, phone number, social security number and, if transferring, previous schools attended.

+ The portfolio should be organized and easy to handle. Please do not send tubes of rolled drawings.

+ Include the assignment description/explanation and any relevant descriptive material.

Portfolios should be mailed or hand delivered to:
