Bio |
|
John James Pron teaches architectural design in studios at various levels and also lectures on architectural history (ancient and medieval, Renaissance and Baroque, to the present day) dealing with both Western and Nonwestern traditions. His specializations focus on graphic presentations (hand drawn and collaged) and on Historic Preservation and Adaptive Reuse in studios that explore the placement of new functions, new users and new activities in the shells and fabrics of existing older buildings and urban contexts. The goal is dual: preserving the unique qualities of their historic character while responding to changing materials, technologies, human needs and cultural values….a formal juxtaposition of old-to-new. In the past, he has led Study Tours of Italy and Greece and has taught at the campus of Temple Rome.
He is a registered practicing architect who serves as the Director of Design at his own firm, Hospitality Design Group, Inc, in Chalfont, PA, which concentrates on hospitality functions and hotel designs….both new construction as well as the adaptive-reuse of older buildings, in center city Philadelphia as well as Bucks County inns. He is also an artist- a member (and former director) of the Third Street Gallery in Old City, Philadelphia. In this venue, he regularly participates in group shows as well as biennial one- and two-person exhibits. He has shown also in galleries at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Arcadia University Gallery, the Philadelphia Chapter AIA Gallery, the Nexus Foundation for Today’s Art, the daVinci Art Alliance, the Print Club, Sketch Club and Plastics Club (all three in Philadelphia), the Abington Art Center and the Perkins Center for the Arts in New Jersey- as well as in Temple University galleries both on main campus and Rome, Italy.
