Ben Samberg, BArch ‘04 was awarded 3 rd Prize in the 2005 “Best and Brightest Student Design Competition.” The competition is sponsored biennially by the Vitetta architectural and engineering corporation for students in the architecture programs of Temple University , Drexel University , Philadelphia University and The University of Pennsylvania. Each institution is allowed to submit up to three projects selected from the recent work within their accredited academic program.

Mr. Samberg's entry was comprised of the visual materials from his thesis project. Titled “The Art of Straying: Studies toward a Daydream Tectonic,” the project included analytical and speculative documents focused on the abandoned Reading-Line rail bed that runs through North Philadelphia . The design process relied montage techniques to produce models, drawings, and photographic materials.

All entries were exhibited during February at the Third Street Gallery, 58 North 2 nd Street , Philadelphia . The jury was comprised of one representative from each of the participating schools, a representative from the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects, a representative from the Third Street Gallery and the 3 members of Vitetta's design committee. Winners were announced on February 3.
