Mechanisms for transfer from the B. Arch to the B.S. Arch by current Temple B. Arch students

Students in the B. Arch from junior year upwards in spring 2009
Students in the junior, senior or final years of the B. Arch in spring 2009 have the options to

1
Complete the B. Arch and, should they wish to study further, undertake a post-professional M. Arch elsewhere. A post-professional one year M. Arch, to be offered in partnership with the Fox School of Business is currently under development at Temple. We cannot, as yet, give a date for its introduction.

2
At the end of spring 2010 to withdraw from the B. Arch (after the fourth year of study) and graduate with a B.S. Arch (on the successful completion of 4 yrs of design studio). Apply to the M. Arch. No courses completed in the B. S. Arch will qualify for graduate credits.

Students in the sophomore year of the Temple Architecture Basic Studies program in spring 2009
The following options are available to students in the sophomore year of the Temple Architecture Basic Studies program in fall 2009:

1
Acceptance into the B. Arch for fall 2009, completion of the B.Arch.

2
Acceptance into the existing B.S. Arch in fall 2009, completion of the existing B.S. Arch.

3
Acceptance into the B. Arch in fall 2009, transition to the new B.S. Arch from spring 2010 onwards.

Students accepted into the B. Arch in fall 2009 will be permitted, if they so choose, to transition to the equivalent of the 2010 pre-professional B.S. Arch degree in order to qualify to apply for the new M. Arch in 2011/12. In order to do so, the following curriculum will have to be followed:

Fall 2009 Follow the regular B. Arch curriculum for semester five.

Spring 2010 Follow the regular B. Arch curriculum for semester six except take Arch 5252 (Structural Design 1) in place of Arch 3252 (Structural Design 1) for graduate credits.

Fall 2010 Follow the regular B Arch curriculum for semester seven except take Arch 3354 (Sustainability and Architecture) in place of Arch 4351 (Environmental Systems) and Arch 5253 (Structural Design 2) in place of Arch 3253 (Structural Design 2), the latter for graduate credits.

Spring 2010 Follow the regular B. Arch curriculum for semester eight except take an architecture elective in place of Arch 4096 (Professional Practice).

Students who have successfully completed this curriculum will graduate with the equivalent of the pre-professional B. S. Arch at the end of spring 2010 and be eligible to apply for admission to the M. Arch in spring 2010.

In considering this option, the following should be noted:

1
The M.Arch Fee structure will be the same as that of the Tyler MFA (see tuition website)

2
The two courses (Arch 5252 and Arch 5253) taken for graduate credits in the undergraduate degree will be charged at graduate rates.

3
In order to transfer these credits to the graduate degree, students must achieve a minimum of a B grade.

4
Admission to a Temple graduate program requires a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Students in their freshman year in spring 2009
The following options are available to students in their freshman year in fall 2009:

1
Acceptance into the B. Arch in fall 2010, completion of the B. Arch.

2
Acceptance into the 2010 pre-professional B.S. Arch in fall 2010, for eligibility for application to the M. Arch after graduation.

3
Acceptance into the existing B.S. Arch in fall 2010, completion of the existing B.S. Arch.

Temple pre-professional B.S. Arch students (Spring 2014 onwards)
From January 2014 onwards, students in the senior year of the Temple B.S. Arch pre-professional program will have the opportunity to apply to the M. Arch program for the 2015 academic year. Acceptance into the M. Arch is not automatic. Students will be accepted on a competitive basis. They will be required to:

1
successfully complete the Temple pre-professional B.S. Arch with a minimum GPA of 3.0

2
submit a portfolio of their most important and representative design work (see Graduate Admissions)

3
submit a statement of intent for study at the Masters level

Because the M. Arch is the final two years of the accredited 'four plus two' program, Temple architecture students with the above qualifications are well known the faculty and are not required to take the GRE or TOEFL. This is typical of our peer and aspirant institutions offering this course of study in architecture.
