Rotations in pediatric anesthesia provide residents with the opportunity to learn about and participate in all aspects of pediatric anesthesia. In the CA-2 year residents spend 2 months at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), an internationally recognized center for pediatric care. During this rotation residents learn the fundamental principles of pediatric anesthesia as they care for patients ranging in age from pre-term infants to young adults. There is a regularly recurring didactic program so that each resident has a similar learning experience. Residents may elect to return to CHOP as an elective rotation in the CA-3 year.

Temple Children's Medical Center

Each CA-3 resident will have a pediatric anesthesia rotation at Temple Children's Medical Center (TUCMC), a 60-bed pediatric hospital located next to the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital and across the street from Temple University Hospital.

The Department of Anesthesiology, with 5 pediatric anesthesia faculty members who are based at TUCMC, performs more than 3,500 pediatric anesthetics annually. The patient population spans the range from pre-term babies to young adults and includes patients having a wide variety of surgical procedures including complex spine and complex ENT surgical procedures. Residents participate in all aspects of anesthesia practice while at TUCMC.
