Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
During this rotation the resident
assigned to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) evaluates all
patients admitted to the PACU following anesthesia. The
residents develop an understanding of the normal recovery patterns
from various types of anesthesia, as well as, learn to recognize and
treat post-anesthesia problems. Residents learn to evaluate
patients' readiness for discharge from the PACU.
Post-operative pain management is another facet of the PACU
rotation.
To facilitate the learning experience an
on-line, self-study course in post-anesthesia care is part of this
rotation. Attending anesthesiologists are available to provide
support and teaching. |
