A Message from the Program Director
Welcome
to the residency education section of our Web site. By exploring
the pages below you will learn about the advantages of being an
anesthesiology resident at Temple University. Since 1942, when
Philip Woodbridge, MD was appointed the first Professor of
Anesthesiology at Temple, the faculty of the department have been
training physicians to become skillful anesthesiologists.
The Temple
advantage begins with the scope and complexity of the patients for
whom we provide care. Temple University Hospital, the major
teaching site for the residency program, provides primary care for
residents of North Philadelphia and advanced tertiary care services
for patients from Philadelphia, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
Delaware, and beyond. Specialty programs in cardiopulmonary
disease, orthopedics, neurosurgery, the surgical treatment of
obesity, and high-risk obstetrics provide a diverse and challenging
patient population. Temple University Hospital has the only Level-1
trauma center and the only burn center in the Philadelphia region providing
care for both adults and children.
The advantage
continues with the educational environment at Temple. In the operating room, the critical
care unit, the preanesthetic clinic, and the pain medicine clinic,
our goal is for residents to learn in
a supportive and collegial environment. .A strong sense of
community among residents, faculty, and nurses is an another important
advantage of training at
Temple. By choosing Temple you will be part of a larger
community of residents and fellows. Temple University Hospital
sponsors 38 residency and fellowship programs with approximately 500 residents.
Explore the Web
site to learn how the residency program is organized and to learn
about the subspecialty divisions within our department. If you have
questions that are not answered in the Web site, please feel free to
contact me. We are proud of our residents and our graduates. In
choosing Temple you will benefit from the Temple advantage and be
prepared for whatever path you choose after completing the residency
program: fellowship training, academic anesthesiology, or community
practice.
Enjoy your visit!
