Conferences

Grand Rounds

Weekly conference for the entire department.  This conference includes morbidity & mortality review, interesting case conference, subspecialty lectures, and outside speakers.

Introduction to Anesthesiology

During the 9 week CA-1 orientation program their is an introductory lecture series held each weekday afternoon.  This conference is an introduction to the theory and practice of anesthesiology and a survey of the major subspecialty areas.  The conferences follow the organization of an introductory anesthesia textbook that serves to supplement the information presented in the lectures.

Core Curriculum Conferences

These conferences use several textbooks as the organizing theme for teaching conferences that follow a seminar approach.  Through the use of assigned reading and a question/answer format the basic science, clinical science, and subspecialty areas of anesthesiology are learned.  The goal is for the sessions to be interactive and learner-centered.

Journal Club

There is a monthly journal club where residents review and discuss articles from anesthesiology and related journals.  Emphasis is placed on developing critical appraisal skills in reviewing scientific literature.
