Resident Mentors
Resident Mentors live with the AMP residents in "1940." They are second, third, or fourth year CST students selected to promote a healthy and supportive living environment for AMP students who have chosen to participate with the AMP Living and Learning Community (LLC; to learn more about LLCs, visit www.temple.edu/studentaffairs/housing/reshall/learning_communities.html).
Resident Mentors receive pre-service and on-going training designed to further develop their skills and knowledge base. Since RMs have the opportunity to work closely with students over an extended period of time, they are in the unique position of being able to positively influence student growth.
In general, AMP Resident Mentors, help nurture AMP relationship-building by fostering a sense of community (particularly within the AMP LLC). Primarily, Resident Mentors are leaders and provide guidance and support for students.
Resident Mentors are welcoming, accessible, open-minded, enthusiastic, and responsible AMP participants, who are truly committed not only to the success of the AMP program, but also to their own academic excellence and achievement.
RMs work to create a positive environment in three ways:
1. by fostering a sense of community within the AMP floor;
2. by providing help and assistance to students; and
3. by working with students and staff to ensure the smooth operation of the
residence halls.
Resident Mentor specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
1. help plan, organize, and implemetn hall activities designed to support the
academic experiences of students including peer group study;
2. work closely with the RA to ensure a healthy and supportive environment;
3. utilize the AMP floor lounge as Resource Room, which can be used to host study
sessions, information sessions, workshops, study breaks, or for general 'free-
time' (this is not an exhaustive list);
4. meet once a week with the AMP Program Coordinator to receive and provide
programmatic feedback on the success of the hall, to plan events, and/or discuss
relevant hall life topics/issues (this is not an exhaustive list).
