Kenneth Finkel, WHYY's Executive Director of Arts & Culture Service sinceFebruary 2000, began his career as curator of prints and photographs at The Library Company of Philadelphia in 1977. Projects include books,catalogues and exhibitions on 19th century photography, book illustrationand the history of Philadelphia architecture. Finkel's first bookNineteenth-Century Photography in Philadelphia was published in 1980. More more recently, he contributed to books on the early 19th centurysketchbooks of Joshua Rowley Watson and the Pennsylvania Railroadphotographs of William H. Rau. Between 1994 and 1999, Finkel was aProgram Officer at the William Penn Foundation, focusing on Arts &Culture. He has also served on the Board of the Pennsylvania HumanitiesCouncil and the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts. AtWHYY, Finkel has served as executive producer of seven national televisionproductions, including the opening the Philadelphia's Kimmel Center Forthe Performing Arts and a documentary for the Benjamin FranklinTercentenary.
