Careers

OUR GRADUATES HAVE found careers in a variety of occupations. As a liberal arts graduate, you'll have developed flexibility and broad understandings that are often sought out in today's challenging job market. Majors may find their niche in public history, library work, non-profit cultural organizations; or as entrepreneurs, where their training in innovative thinking gives them the edge. If you're planning on going to law school or entering graduate work, American Studies provides an excellent pre-professional training.

"My present employment requires me to work with people of many countries from around the globe coming to the United States for the first time. My American Studies education prepared me to interpret their views of my country, as well as explain the ever-changing face of America to them. American Studies at Temple was not the conclusion of my education. It is a solid base upon which my future educations -- both classroom and otherwise -- can be constructed."

Benjamin Helwig, Class of 1998
Program Assistant, Eisenhower Fellowships

WE WORK INDIVIDUALLY with students to make available a senior year internship in a field of interest. This may be working for a museum, for a political candidate, in a chamber of commerce, in a labor union, or in business. It could be participating in a hotline, in peer counseling, or a teaching experience. Majors take on the kind of out-of-classroom activity that provides depth to their major area of study.

AMERICAN STUDIES IS a fascinating area for graduate study, no matter what your undergraduate major. Click here for graduate programs across the United States.
