Accreditation
The program is approved by the State Board of Nursing, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. CCNE can be reached at One DuPont Circle NW, Washington, DC 20036, 202-887-6791. The web site is here.
General Information
Registered nurses who are graduates of diploma and associate degree programs may apply for admission with advanced standing. As many courses as possible are accepted in transfer, including the nursing pre-requisites taken in the basic nursing program. A grade of C or better is needed in order to receive transfer credit.
Students who are licensed in Pennsylvania and who have current practice experience are given 32 advanced placement credits in nursing. Students who have not practiced nursing in the last 10 years are required to take challenge exams to validate their nursing knowledge.
After successful completion of the challenge tests, students are awarded the 32 advanced placement credits. In either case, these credits are recorded on a student’s transcript the semester the student finishes the program.
The non-nursing requirements do not need to be completed before beginning the RN-BSN nursing courses. Completion of the program is usually facilitated if requirements are intermingled. It is not advisable to delay these courses. They should be taken along with the nursing courses.
Interested applicants should call for an advising appointment to discuss the program and undergo a preliminary review of transcripts.
Applications
The application deadline for admission in the fall semester is June 15 and for the spring semester is November 1. Students whose applications are not complete by the deadline can begin studies as a non-matriculated student. Non-matriculated students are those who have not been formally admitted to the Nursing program. Non-matriculated students are required to apply for admission before they complete 12 credits or before they enroll for their third semester
For an application packet, go here and click on the RN-BSN link, or call 215-707-5018 and leave a message in the undergraduate mailbox. (Be sure to specify that you are calling about the RN-BSN Advanced Placement Program.)
Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree
The student must successfully complete a minimum of 123 semester hours, including all the prescribed courses for the professional discipline. Credits may be earned by transfer from another accredited college or university, through advanced placement credit in nursing, by College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Excelsior College (formerly ACT-PEP) examinations (where scores are acceptable to Temple University), or by taking the courses at Temple.
To be eligible for graduation, a student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. All Core and required courses must be completed with a grade of C- or higher.

Core Curriculum
All students must complete the Temple Core Curriculum. Students who transfer 45 or more non-nursing credits into Temple complete a modified version of the Core. The course distributions are noted below for each version of the Core Curriculum.
Temple has Core-to-Core transfer agreements with the area community colleges. If a student has completed an acceptable general-education distribution from one of these colleges, these courses will be accepted in place of Temple’s Core. The Temple University Undergraduate Bulletin should be consulted for details on these agreements
here.
