Students take up residence at Temple University Ambler for Fall 2009

WHERE: Temple University Ambler, 580 Meetinghouse Road, East Residence Hall

WHEN:  Move-in Day: Friday, August 28,
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Some students will get a head start on the Fall 2009 semester Friday, August 28, as they take their first step into their new home away from home.

Freshman and transfer students will begin moving into the Temple University Ambler residence halls at about 10 a.m. on Friday, August 28. The migration should continue until about 3 p.m. Upperclassmen will move in on Saturday, August 29.

“Move-in day is a busy, and often unnerving, time for students, particularly if this will be the first time they are living away from home,” said Dr. Wanda Lewis-Campbell, Assistant Dean for Student Life. “Our Residence Hall Success Program, in which returning students come back to help new students adjust to life on campus, helps the transition process run more smoothly. It also gives new students the chance to bond with upperclassmen so they know they aren’t alone on campus.”

The East and West Residence Halls have a long history with the Ambler campus. Both buildings opened as dormitories in 1965. While West Hall today primarily houses faculty and staff offices, East Hall remains exclusively a residence hall.

To help new freshman get started on the right foot, Temple University Ambler Dean Dr. James W. Hilty will meet with the students on Sunday, August 30, at 12:30 p.m., in the campus Learning Center. Students at Ambler will also participate in Convocation ceremonies at 3:45 p.m. at the Main Campus — shuttle bus service from Ambler will depart at 1:00 p.m.

Classes at Temple University Ambler begin on Monday, August 31.
