With 25 years as a member of the Temple University
faculty, Dr. Sluzis' expertise is in the areas of post-harvest physiology
and cut flowers, emphasizing the environmental side of horticulture and
agriculture. She teaches: Plant Physiology, Applied Entomology,
Soils, and Greenhouse Management.
Dr. Sluzis was a participant in writing the proposal for the new
state-of-the-art greenhouse under construction at Temple University
Ambler. She also has expertise in the proper placement of plants, plants
are often placed in the incorrect environment for them to thrive. Her
students are studying flooding and the stresses plants go through in such
an environment.
Dr. Sluzis also has knowledge of pest and disease control, particularly
pest management. Integrated pest management was the theme of one of the
centerpiece exhibits for the 2001 Philadelphia Flower Show, in which
Temple University participated as part of a consortium of colleges and
companies.
Dr. Sluzis is an associated faculty member of the Center for Sustainable
Communities at Temple University Ambler. She is a member of the American
Farmland Trust and the New Jersey Public Interest Research Group.
