Landscape Architecture students can choose to study at Temple University Rome in the fall semester of their senior year.
Temple Rome is housed in the Villa Caproni facing the Tiber River just north of Piazza del Popolo and within walking distance to the Spanish Steps and other major attractions. The main focus of your studies will be on joint studios with Architecture students taught by renowned local practitioners. All your courses will explore the rich and inspiring history of Italian culture.
You will also have an opportunity to meet students from numerous universities across the United States who come to Temple Rome to study painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and art history.

A Tale of Two Owls
Our Temple University Ambler Owls were back in Rome for the Fall 2011 semester and they are blogging about it!
Join Landscape Architecture students Felicia DiPietro and Kelsey Stanton on their international adventure as they throw coins in the Trevi Fountain, spend a night at the opera, visit Tivoli, capture the incredible architecture on film, and, of course, head to class.
What better place could there be for future landscape architects to study their craft than the historic architecture and glorious vistas of Italy? Needless to say, they’re having the time of their lives and they’re inviting everyone along for the journey through an ongoing blog — A Tale of Two Owls.

The joint Architecture/Landscape Architecture curriculum at Temple Rome uses the rich architectural heritage of Rome - ancient, Renaissance, baroque and contemporary - as the focus of its studio problem investigations. Each semester, visiting Italian architects lecture on aspects of modern and contemporary Italian architecture. The architecture studio includes individual workspaces.
All students register for a total of 12 to 17 credits per semester. Students enroll in the six-credit design studio and may take their other courses in Italian language, art history, and visual arts.
The Architecture/Landscape Architecture program is offered in both fall and spring semesters. Temple University landscape architecture students may participate in the fall semester of senior year.
Courses:
Architecture 3234: Architectural Design Studio (6 s.h.)
Emphasis on understanding problems of today's design in the historical urban context. The relation between old and new is examined in projects of architectural elements and small public buildings located in the historical center of Rome. Themes are chosen for their aptness to demonstrate the basic problems produced by the context of the old city, rather than for their architectural complexity. Main goals of the course are progressively: a) to orient students in a (partial) synthesis of the huge visual material of study that a city like Rome offers; b) to promote research on today's attitude towards historical heritage of forms in the city, as they are the roots of our individual and social cultural identity. Prerequisite: Students must be accepted into the Rome Architecture Program.
Language:
Except for courses in Italian language and literature, all instruction is in English.
Although Italian-language background is not required for acceptance into the Temple Rome program, students are urged to enroll in Italian language courses prior to the start of the program to ease the transition to Italian culture and enhance the overall experience. Students with no previous instruction in the Italian language are required to enroll in beginning Italian during their first semester in Rome.
