Educational Symposia & Tours
November 4,
2008
On November 4, 2008 the researchers from Temple University’s Center for
Sustainable Communities met Upper Moreland School District administrators
and faculty serving on the Math and Science Curricula Committee at the
Pennypack Environmental Restoration Trust to tour the T-VSSI BMPs. The
purpose of this site visit was to describe how each BMP functions and the
types of monitoring activities appropriate for each BMP. The monitoring
procedures were described to enhance the faculty’s understanding of the
sampling and measuring methods involved as well as how these activities
could enhance student learning in math and science. The CSC is working
with the UMSD to develop a stormwater management plan for its campuses as
well as ways to incorporate the BMPs as living laboratories in the K-12
math and science courses.
