Whitpain Township developed a permit tracking system for impervious surfaces based on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. The GIS system is a parcel-based permitting system and allows for each building permit in the township to be inventoried by impervious surface impacts. The system allows for quick and accurate accounting in compliance with township regulations. As a result of the tracking system, Whitpain Township has been able to monitor numerous building permits and stormwater BMP projects within the Township's watersheds. Additionally, the system has assisted the Township in reducing stormwater runoff impacts through monitoring of additional impervious surfaces from building permit activities.
