Sheridan Street Housing is affordable, environmentally sustainable housing that seeks to support neighborhood linkages between the Temple University and Northern Liberties neighborhoods, as well as diversify the housing offerings in the neighborhood. The infill development plan has been nationally recognized for its energy-efficient design and construction from renewable and recycled materials, and has received awards from the American Institute of Architects and Residential Architect Magazine, in addition to being a Philadelphia Sustainability Award nominee.
To
address stormwater runoff for the 13-unit development, project partners
focused their designs on the goal of infiltrating 100% of site runoff.
Housing units interlock so runoff is collected into a single network,
and managed by a homeowner association. The streetscape design would
implement porous paving and trees planted along Sheridan Street. The
development would retain open space for a common area, which would also
provide some infiltration capacity on the site.
