As
its name implies, RiverCrest is situated 300 feet above the Schuylkill
River on bluffs with slopes in excess of 1 to 1. The tract is bisected
by two ravines with seeps, springs and tributaries to the Schuylkill
River. Conventional stormwater management systems would have resulted in
basins with outlets at the top of the steep slopes. Site investigations
revealed that the bluffs are underlain by fractured shale, meaning that
these plateaus act as recharge areas for the underground aquifers.
Instead of attempting to dig and install basins, rain gardens were
installed on the grounds of this golf course community as a means of
stormwater retention and infiltration. |
