 Description

Located in southern Chester County, the building that houses the Dansko shoe company’s headquarters and its company store has received Gold LEED Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its innovative use of green building practices, which also address sustainable stormwater management. The Dansko project deploys a series of BMPs to control the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff including green roof, permeable parking surfaces, rainwater harvesting, subsurface infiltration and bioretention.

Runoff from the 80,000 square foot building is controlled and reduced through implementation of approximately 14,230 square feet of green roof and a 10,000 gallon rainwater cistern used for on-site irrigation and for flushing toilets in the building. Site-generated runoff is controlled through the use of rain garden bioretention areas that are constructed over subsurface infiltration galleries in parking area islands. Grass pavers are installed throughout the parking areas to further limit runoff.
