Assistant Professor
Community and Regional Planning
Temple University
Dr. Flamm joined the Ambler College
Community and Regional Planning faculty in Fall 2007 as an Assistant
Professor.
He teaches transportation planning,
planning methods, and sustainable development courses. His research
interests are focused on the environmental and energy impacts of
transportation systems and shared and non-motorized forms of
transportation (including patterns of bicycle commuting, his preferred
mode of transportation from his home in Mt. Airy to the Ambler campus).
His current research efforts include a
sustainability audit of Montgomery Township, PA, a greenhouse gas
inventory and climate change action plan for four communities in
Delaware County, PA, and a survey of attitudes and travel behaviors
related to “green” transportation policies and modes. In addition, as
the chair of the Transportation Sub-Committee of Temple University’s
Sustainability Task Force, he is applying his expertise in these areas
to developing a university-wide action plan for reducing greenhouse gas
emissions from university-related commuting, vehicle fleets, and
business travel.
Dr. Flamm has recently published
articles in Environmental Management, the Journal of Transport History
and the Berkeley Planning Journal, and has written policy briefs, online
reports, and conference papers and proceedings. Currently he is
completing articles for submission to the journals of Transportation
Research Part D (Transportation and Environment) and Environment and
Behavior.
Active in his profession, Dr. Flamm
has served as a board member on various committees, including the City
of Cleveland Heights, Ohio’s Visioning Committee, the Friends of
Cameroon in the United States, and Alt-Trans Cleveland. He has worked on
long-term projects for the United States Agency for International
Development, the United Nations’ World Food Program, the U.S. Peace
Corps, and EcoCity Cleveland, a non-profit environmental planning
organization in Northeast Ohio. He is professionally affiliated with the
Transportation Research Board, the American Planning Association, and
the International Society for the Study of the History of Transport,
Traffic and Mobility.
In 2006, Dr. Flamm completed a PhD in
City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley. He
also holds a Master in Regional Planning degree from Cornell University
and a BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley.
