Associate Professor
Dept of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture
With 25 years as a member of the Temple University faculty, Dr. Sluzis’
expertise is in the areas of post-harvest physiology and cut flowers,
emphasizing the environmental side of horticulture and agriculture. She
teaches Plant Physiology, Applied Entomology, Soils, and courses in
greenhouse management. Dr. Sluzis was a participant in writing the
proposal for the new state-of-the-art greenhouse under construction at
Temple University Ambler. She also has expertise in the proper placement
of plants — plants are often placed in the incorrect environment for
them to thrive. Her students are studying flooding and the stresses
plants go through in such an environment. Dr. Sluzis also has knowledge
of pest and disease control, particularly pest management. Integrated
pest management is the theme of one of the centerpiece exhibits for the
2001 Philadelphia Flower Show in March, in which Temple University will
participate as part of a consortium of colleges and companies. Dr.
Sluzis is an associated faculty member of the Center for Sustainable
Communities at Temple University Ambler. She is a member of the
American Farmland Trust and the New Jersey Public Interest
Research Group. |
