Temple Planning Student Organization

The Temple Planning Student Organization (TPSO) seeks to engage students with their peers, faculty, alumni, and others, on planning related projects, topics, and issues.

The Temple Planning Student Organization typically meets every other week during the fall and spring semesters,
and about once per month during the summer.

In addition to regular meetings, TPSO organizes networking activities, field trips to interesting planning sites, and service projects. The organization also disseminates information about planning-related conferences and events, and encourages students to attend.

Planning Playground

Each year, the Temple Planning Student Organization is an integral part of Planning Playground at Temple University Ambler EarthFest. Planning Playground provides visitors to EarthFest the opportunity to explore the planning field, mapping with technology, and sustainability through fun, interactive games and projects. The Planning Playground is presented by event host the Center for Sustainable Communities, the Department of Community and Regional Planning, the Ambler Campus Sustainability Council, and the Temple Planning Student Organization.

The "Planning Playground" tent help spread the word about sustainability with wide variety of activities to more than 10,000 visitors. Games like “Slam Dunk the Junk” help teach kids about separating the different recyclables before shooting them into their proper receptacles.
“Eco-promise Stamps” uses carved sweet potatoes as stamps which symbolized different promises you can make to the environment. “Seed Balls” are made from clay, organic compost, wild flower seeds, and some water. By rolling them into grape size balls they could be thrown anywhere you wish to grow flowers. “Where do you live” offers visitors the opportunity to pinpoint their home location on a giant map of the five county Delaware Valley region.

“Litter IQ” features a magic litter IQ game that showed litter trivia once opened. Did you know it takes up to 2 year for a banana peel to decompose?! “Build a Town” showed kids how to build a planned community with blocks by emphasizing environmentally safe building locations.
