Credit for Coursework Taken as a Non-degree seeking (non-matriculated) Student
(Grad policy)
A non-degree seeking (non-matriculated) student may be allowed credit for up to 9 semester hours (s.h.) of graduate coursework, graded B or higher, taken before matriculation.
Transfer Credit
(Grad policy)
A maximum of 9 s.h of transfer graduate coursework taken at an accredited institution prior to matriculation, and graded B or higher, may be accepted toward the M.S. in CRP with permission of the Department. See "Transfer of Graduate Credit Request Form." Students matriculated at the CRP Temple program may also be eligible to take a 6 s.h of courses at another College and apply those 9 s.h towards the degree. The student must get written permission from the Chair of the department.
Waiving GRE
(Grad Policy)
The GRE may be waived if:
1. A student has earned a Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
2. A student completed 9 s.h of CRP graduate courses with a 3.25 cumulative gpa or higher.
3. The students Undergraduate GPA is greater than a 3.5 in the last two years of their undergraduate study.
Full-Time Status
(Grad Policy)
To be designated full-time, a graduate student (including all recipients of Graduate School Fellowships) must be enrolled for 9 or more semester hours of coursework each semester until all coursework is completed. A graduate student who holds an assistantship that requires at least twenty hours of service per week must be enrolled in 6 s.h.
Grades
(Grad Policy)
No grade below a C- can be used to fulfill any graduate requirement. A student who receives more than two grades below B- or more than one grade of F will be dismissed for failure to maintain satisfactory grades. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 is required in order to graduate, A student may not graduate with any grade of "I", "NR", or "MG." This includes CRP courses and any course taken outside of the department.
An instructor may file an "I" when a student has completed the majority of the work at a passing level and has a written agreement with the instructor and the department regarding completion of the work. The completion date may be no later than one year from the end of the semester in which the student took the course. The agreement shall also specify a default grade to be received if the work is not completed by the date indicated.
CRP Thesis project guidelines
(CRP Policy)
Students may complete a thesis as a six credit elective over two semesters. All students must complete the thesis project and submit two bound copies to the department. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE GRADUATION. Contact the department chair for the guidelines and forms at 267-468-8301 or dhowe@temple.edu. Students who do not finish the thesis project in a semester must receive an (R) grade, & will need to re-register for the course to remain actively registered each semester until the project is completed. Students must have completed 18 s.h of coursework before starting the thesis.
Taking a CRP
studio course
(CRP policy)
All core courses must be completed prior to taking the studio course (9889). Core courses include CRP 5529, 8013, 8019, 8213, 8413, and 8513.
Repeating a Course
for Credit
(Grad Policy)
A student may, with the permission of the advisor and graduate program director, retake a course once in order to improve the grade. The higher grade will be used instead of the lower grade to calculate the graduate grade point average (GPA). Both grades will remain on the transcript, but the semester hours for the course will be counted only once toward graduation requirements.
Continuous Enrollment/Leave of Absence
(Grad Policy)
A graduate student must maintain continuous enrollment (i.e., 1 or more semester hours each Fall and Spring) from the semester of matriculation through the semester of graduation. The only exception is for a student on an approved Leave of Absence. Before the leave semester begins, the student must file the "Request for a Leave of Absence" and pay the required fee (currently $25). A Leave of Absence does not extend the time limit for the degree. If this form is not submitted the Graduate School will put a hold on the students' records; these students will not be able to register for their remaining courses. Students can use up to 4 semesters of leave. Students must submit a Leave of Absence form along with the $25 check, for each semester of leave taken.
Waiving a course
(CRP Policy)
With written permission from the Chair, a student can get a specific course waived, based on employment experience or previous academic work. The student must supply the Chair and Administrator a current CV and a job description if available. A student must still complete a total of 45 s.h in order to graduate.
For any questions regarding forms and/or policies, contact the CRP Department Chair for assistance at 267-468-8301 or dhowe@temple.edu.
Application for Graduation
All students must apply for graduation and pay the associated fees by the deadline listed in the University's Academic Calendar. This is the only means by which a diploma will be produced and an awarded degree transcripted. (Also refer to the version of the calendar adapted for graduate students.)
Time Limit for a
M.S. Degree
(Grad Policy)
There is a time limit of 5 years to complete the M.S. in CRP. The time limit begins with the semester of matriculation and ends with the semester in which the degree is earned. You may download a "Request for Extension" form here. The School of Environmental Design has the authority to grant a maximum extension of 1 year for a student who needs more time. If more then 5 years and a 1 year extension is needed, only the Dean of the Graduate School can consider a request for additional time. Consult with the CRP administrator and the Chair of the department to get the forms to process this request.
Registration
(Grad Policy)
Students must be appropriately registered for courses. Those who are not on the published grade list for a course may not receive a grade or credit for that course. Students are advised to utilize Self Service Banner at TUportal to confirm billing and registration status, particularly when adding a course, dropping a class, or otherwise revising their roster. All students are responsible for ensuring that their registration is accurate. Note that any student who is registered for a course but does not attend will be billed for the course and will receive a final grade of "F" from the instructor.
