Athletics at Ambler

The Ambler Sports Complex

Are you ready for some baseball? How about softball? Or soccer?

The Temple University Ambler campus became the full-time home for the Temple University men’s soccer, women’s soccer, baseball and softball teams during the Spring 2004 semester. All four NCAA Division I teams are members of the Atlantic 10 conference.

The fields are located on the tract of land bounded by Meetinghouse Road, Woods Drive, Butler Pike, and the Ambler campus commuter parking lot. All practices and games take place during the day. Come out and cheer your teams to victory!

Intercollegiate Athletics Field House

In Fall 2005, the Ambler campus unveiled the Intercollegiate Athletics Field House.

The Field House was part of a $4.5 million project, which included construction of new athletics fields at the Ambler campus for the men’s and women’s soccer teams and the baseball and softball teams. The building, which includes coaches’ offices, equipment rooms, a weight-training facility, locker rooms and storage areas, is comprised of a central hub with two off-shooting “wings,” giving it a distinctive owl design. It is located off Woods Drive near the baseball and softball fields.

The Intercollegiate Athletics Field House is not just a place for Owls athletes to call home. The new building has a strong research component that promotes alternative energy concepts.

With the help of a $50,000 grant from PECO Energy, Temple University developed a “green roof garden” atop this athletics facility. A green roof is a living biological community of plants that provide an environmentally sound alternative to a traditional roof system. The green roof garden provides substantial educational and research opportunities for students and faculty.

Baseball

The Skip Wilson Field is located near the commuter parking lot. Home plate faces Meetinghouse Road. The field is named after legendary head baseball coach James “Skip” Wilson, who, prior to his retirement, recorded his 1,000th career coaching win for Temple at the program’s new home at the Ambler campus.
