School of Environmental Design Alumni Association (SEDAA)

Introduction

The School of Environmental Design Alumni Association is one of 17 branches of the Temple University Alumni Association. The SEDAA sponsors lectures, alumni events, and scholarships during the year.

Letter from the President

Alison Rife Thornton, President, ’03, HorticultureI am honored to be the president of the School of Environmental Design (SED) Alumni Association (ACAA), which supports the people and programs that make up Temple University’s School of Environmental Design in the College of Liberal Arts as well as the alumnae of the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women. And this year there is much to support!

The Ambler campus has a new momentum that started with the construction of the new Greenhouse and the designation of the campus as an arboretum. With the opening of the new Learning Center activity on campus is on the rise; expect the same from the Alumni Association.

Claire Whiting AMB ’66, past-President, has stepped down after almost two decades of service to the Association. I commend her for this extraordinary commitment— and the commitment of her executive committee, Ron McKnight AMB ’70, Theresa Meehan AMB ’90, Betty Kosty Smith AMB ’48, and Mary Ann Fry AMB ’77 — to Ambler College alumni and friends. I am so appreciative for the time she has spent preparing me for my new responsibilities.

As I move forward in this new role, I will look to you for help in creating an alumni presence that reflects this vibrant College. I encourage you to stay in touch and to not be a stranger to the campus. Dean Hilty and his dedicated faculty and staff are doing a tremendous job strengthening the campus’ ties with the community and continuously striving to make Temple University Ambler a valuable resource to our neighbors throughout the region.

I hope you will join us for one of the SED lectures this year; visit the Philadelphia Flower Show, and support the efforts that have brought national recognition to the work of our students, staff, and faculty; celebrate EarthFest in April, which drew 15,000 visitors to campus this year; and attend many other events throughout the year.

Keep a watch for announcements sponsored by the Scool of Environmental Design Alumni Association. I hope to see you soon and see you often.

Sincerely,
Alison Rife Thornton AMB ’03
President, School of Environmental Design Alumni Association
