Landscape Architecture & Horticulture Scholarships

Please note:

Follow this link to find the new 2008-2009 application form for all Landscape Architecture and Horticulture scholarships. This application form replaces any older versions that may be available. Please note that any student wishing to be considered for any of the Landscape Architecture and Horticulture scholarships and/or awards MUST FILL OUT THIS APPLICATION and submit it to Linda Palmarozza in the department office, 201 Dixon Hall, along with AN ESSAY that discusses the questions on the application form. LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AND HORTICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORM


AMBLER COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (ACAA) AWARD

  • Recognizes a graduating student in Landscape Architecture or Horticulture for dedication, unselfishness, and contribution to Ambler College.
  • Questions regarding this award should be directed to Linda Lowe, Director of Development and Alumni Affairs, at
    267-468-8440.
  • Amount: $100 award.
  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture graduating seniors.
  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

VIOLA ANDERS MERIT AWARD

  • A cash prize to a graduating student in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture for meritorious service and dedication to the Landscape Arboretum of Temple University Ambler.

  • Funded by the Ambler College Alumni Association (ACAA)

  • If you have questions regarding this award, please contact Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Two awards of $100.

  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors.  

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).


WILMER ATKINSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance in varying amounts depending upon the student’s financial need.

  • If you have questions regarding this scholarship, please contact Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Typically two to five scholarships of varying amounts.

  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

BIERHUIZEN FAMILY UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD IN HORTICULTURE

  • Given to a student majoring in Horticulture to help defray the cost associated with his or her Senior Research Project, including, but not limited to, the costs of plants, equipment, travel, and shipping.
  • If you have questions regarding this scholarship, please contact Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.
  • Amount: $500
  • Eligibility: Second semester junior Horticulture majors.
  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).
  • A one-page summary of your Senior Research Project must also be submitted.

EMMA BLAKISTON-FRANCES LUKENS BOOK AWARD
  • A cash award for the purchase of books given to the member of the graduating class in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture who ranks highest in academic achievement.

  • Questions regarding this award should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • $50 book prize.

  • Eligibility: A graduating major in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

LOUISE AND JAMES BUSH-BROWN ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance provided to an undergraduate (sophomore) in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture by the Ambler College Alumni Association for academic achievement during the school year.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $1,000.

  • Eligibility: An undergraduate sophomore in Landscape Architecture or Horticulture.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).


STEPHANIE SHERMAN COHEN HORTICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP

  • Established in 2005 by Stephanie Cohen, Founding Director of the Landscape Arboretum of Temple University Ambler and an Ambler College adult graduate, this scholarship provides tuition support for adult students (30 years of age or above) who are studying Horticulture for a second degree or for a career change.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $500.

  • Eligibility: Full or part-time adult Horticulture majors (30 years of age or above) based on academic excellence (3.0 GPA or above). In the absence of an appropriate Horticulture applicant, the scholarship may be awarded to a Landscape Architecture major.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

BARRY AND DENISE CYPHERS HORTICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP

  • Given to a freshman student with financial need who enrolls in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, with a preference for students who have participated in the Awbury Arboretum Apprentice Program. 
  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Lowe, Director of Development and Alumni Affairs, at
    267-468-8440.
  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $1,000. Renewable up to four years.
  • Eligibility: Matriculated or non-matriculated students who are registered for at least six credit hours in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture.  Strong preference is given for students who have completed the Awbury Arboretum Apprentice program. A personal statement and a reference from an Awbury Arboretum staff member is required.
  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

DOYLESTOWN NATURE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance provided to Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students. Preference is given to Bucks County residents. Scholarship is based on academic performance and financial need.

  • Amount: Three scholarships at $1,500 to be used toward tuition.

  • Eligibility: Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

GARDEN CLUB OF BALA CYNWYD SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance to Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students. Preference is given to students from the Bala Cynwyd Garden Club area. Scholarship based on academic performance and financial need.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: One or two scholarships usually in the amount of $500 each.

  • Eligibility: Horticulture and Landscape Architecture majors.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).


LOU HENRY HOOVER GIRL SCOUT SCHOLARSHIP
  • Tuition assistance to Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students who have recently been active in the Girl Scout Movement. Scholarship based on financial need.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Two scholarships of $1,000.

  • Eligibility: Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students involved as an active member of the Girl Scout Movement and have been a registered Senior Girl Scout within the previous five years.  

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).


HORTICULTURE/LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

  • Funded by the Ambler College Alumni Association (ACAA). Given to a full-time student who is enrolled in the Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, or Landscape Design program at Ambler College based on financial need, academic achievement, and volunteer service contributing to the well-being of the Ambler gardens and greenhouse. Recipients are not eligible for the Louise and James Bush-Brown Scholarship.
  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.
  • Amount: A $750 scholarship.
  • Eligibility: Horticulture and Landscape Architecture majors who have completed half of the credit requirement for their major.
  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

JOHN COLLINS SCHOLARSHIP

  • Scholarship for Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors in their junior year, with financial need, who demonstrate strong leadership ability and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.
  • Amount: Two awards of $1,000 each.
  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors in their junior year (one from each discipline). The Landscape Architecture student must submit a design project. The Horticulture student must submit an example of their work done during their courses at Ambler.
  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

LARKIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance for Horticulture and Landscape Architecture majors at Temple University Ambler for a resident of Anne Arundel County, Maryland (preferred), or the State of Maryland, based on financial need.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Typical annual award of $2,000. Renewable.

  • Eligibility: Residents of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. In lieu of no students from Anne Arundel County, students from the State of Maryland may apply.  

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

JANE R. MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance for students of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture based on academic achievement.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $750.

  • Eligibility: Horticulture and Landscape Architecture students based on academic achievement.  

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).


PETER G. SCHLOTTERER ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance provided to Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students from the southeastern Pennsylvania or adjacent area, who expect to enter the profession of either environmental preservation or landscape restoration. Based on scholarship and financial need.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Two annual scholarships of $3,000 each.

  • Eligibility: Junior or Senior Horticulture or Landscape Architecture major living in southeastern Pennsylvania region.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).


LEONORA FRIESLEBEN VAUGHN SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance provided to a Horticulture or Landscape Architecture student, based on scholarship and financial need.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $500.

  • Eligibility: A student entering the sophomore year who is majoring in Landscape Architecture or Horticulture, based on financial need.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

WOMAN'S NATIONAL FARM AND GARDEN ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (NATIONAL)

  • Given to a Landscape Architecture or Horticulture major for academic performance and financial need.
  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.
  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $1,000.
  • Eligibility: Female students in the Horticulture or Landscape Architecture.
  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

WOMAN'S NATIONAL FARM AND GARDEN ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (NEW JERSEY)

  • Tuition assistance provided to a female student from New Jersey, if possible, in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture. Based on scholarship and financial need.

  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.

  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $500.

  • Eligibility: Female students in the Horticulture or Landscape Architecture.

  • Deadline for application: March 21, 2008 (deadline extended).

WOMAN'S NATIONAL FARM AND GARDEN ASSOCIATIONSCHOLARSHIP (PENNSYLVANIA)  
  • Tuition assistance awarded to a female student in in good academic standing in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture.

  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $500.

  • Eligibility: Female majors in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture.
