Please note:

Follow this link to find the 2013-2014 application form for all Landscape Architecture and Horticulture scholarships. This application form replaces any older versions that may be available. Please note that any student wishing to be considered for any of the Landscape Architecture and Horticulture scholarships and/or awards MUST FILL OUT THIS APPLICATION and submit it to Linda Palmarozza in the department office, 201 Dixon Hall, along with AN ESSAY that discusses the questions on the application form by Friday, March 15. SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AWARD

  • Recognizes a graduating student in Landscape Architecture or Horticulture for dedication, unselfishness, and contribution to the School of Environmental Design.

  • Amount: $100 award.
  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture graduating seniors.
  • Deadline for application: Friday, March 15, 2013.

VIOLA ANDERS MERIT AWARD

  • A cash prize to a graduating student in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture for meritorious service and dedication to the Landscape Arboretum of Temple University Ambler.

  • Funded by the School of Environmental Design Alumni Association (SEDAA)

  • Amount: Two will be awarded at $100 each, one to an undergraduate student and one to a graduate student.

  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors.

WILMER ATKINSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance in varying amounts depending upon the student’s financial need.

  • Amount: Typically two to five scholarships of varying amounts.

  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors including graduating students.

BIERHUIZEN FAMILY UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD IN HORTICULTURE

  • Given to a student majoring in Horticulture to help defray the cost associated with his or her Senior Research Project, including, but not limited to, the costs of plants, equipment, travel, and shipping.

  • Amount: $200 award.
  • Eligibility: Second semester junior Horticulture majors.
  • Deadline for application: Friday, March 15, 2013. A one-page summary of your Senior Research Project must also be submitted.

LOUISE AND JAMES BUSH-BROWN ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance provided to an undergraduate (sophomore) in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture by the School of Environmental Design Alumni Association for academic achievement during the school year.

  • Amount: Two to three scholarships awarded at $1,000 each.

  • Eligibility: An undergraduate sophomore in Landscape Architecture or Horticulture.

BARRY AND DENISE CYPHERS HORTICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP

  • Provides scholarship funding for a student with financial need who is currently enrolled in a degree program offered within the School of Environmental Design's Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture.
  • Preference for students enrolled in the Horticulture program who have volunteered, worked part-time or completed an internship at the Andalusia Foundation.

  • Amount: A five hundred dollar scholarship may be awarded to a student who completes a minimum of 150 hours of volunteer work or a minimum of 25 days of part-time employment at the Andalusia Foundation. A $1,000 scholarship may be awarded to a student who completes a three month full-time summer internship at the Andalusia Foundation.

  • A letter of recommendation will be required from the applicant’s supervisor at the Andalusia Foundation.
  • Eligibility: A student enrolled in the Landscape Architecture or Horticulture programs.

DOYLESTOWN NATURE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance provided to Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students. Preference is given to Bucks County residents. Scholarship is based on academic performance and financial need.

  • Amount: Three scholarships at $1,500 each will be awarded to be used toward tuition.

  • Eligibility: Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students.

THE JOHN PAUL ENDICOTT SUMMER INTERNSHIP IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AND HORTICULTURE

  • The purpose of the John Paul Endicott Summer Internship is to provide funding for a student enrolled in the School of Environmental Design, majoring in Landscape Architecture and/or Horticulture, to gain practical experience in the food crops garden at the Temple University Ambler Campus. Further, the Internship provides ongoing support for the Garden’s mission to donate produce to local food banks.
  • Primary responsibilities include maintaining the John Paul Endicott Memorial Garden’s food crop plantings; harvesting, weighing, and logging the produce; and delivering the produce to selected local food banks each week. Access to a personal vehicle is required for produce delivery. In addition, the Intern will facilitate and attend scheduled volunteer work events in the garden twice per month, including some Saturday mornings.
  • Schedule and hours: The JPE Intern’s work begins in early May and concludes in late August or early September. A total of 130 hours of work are required during this period, averaging 8 hours per week during the four-month internship. Hours are flexible except for the volunteer work events. The Intern is also expected to participate in a season-end celebration event planned for Sept. 2013.
  • Preference will be given to students entering their junior year.
  • The JPE Intern will be selected by a committee composed of the Chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, a full-time Faculty member from the department, and the Horticulture staff supervisor.
  • The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0.
  • The applicant must submit an essay and two recommendations indicating their demonstrated interest in organic gardening and interest in helping the community through horticulture and food crops.
  • Members of the Endicott Family may review essays and make recommendations on the applications.
  • Compensation: $9/hr up to a total of $1,200. The intern works 8 hrs/wk on average, for a total of 130 hours. At the successful conclusion of the internship, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to be applied toward tuition, for a total compensation of $1,700.

THE HONORABLE JUDGE DAVID ADDY HORTICULTURE AWARD

  • Tuition assistance for a current student enrolled in the School of Environmental Design, Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, with financial needs and a GPA of 2.5 or above, selected by the Chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, funded by the Carbon County Bar Association.
  • Amount: $1,000 award.

LOU HENRY HOOVER GIRL SCOUT SCHOLARSHIP
  • Must have been in the Girl Scouts at least five years (including verification from Girl Scout council or Service unit).
  • Currently enrolled in the School of Environmental Design at Temple University Ambler and studies horticulture, or landscape architecture
  • Amount: Two scholarships will be awarded at $2,000.

HORTICULTURE/LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

  • Funded by the School of Environmental Design Alumni Association (SEDAA). Given to a full-time student who is enrolled in the Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, or Landscape Design program at the School of Environmental Design based on financial need, academic achievement, and volunteer service contributing to the well-being of the Ambler gardens and greenhouse. Recipients are not eligible for the Louise and James Bush-Brown Scholarship.

  • Amount: $800 award.
  • Eligibility: Horticulture and Landscape Architecture majors who have completed half of the credit requirement for their major.

THE JOHN COLLINS DRAWING AWARD

  • An open invitation will be announced annually in the fall semester.
  • The Student must be a graduating senior in the undergraduate Landscape Architecture Program.
  • Student should demonstrate a talent for drawing and should produce a number of well crafted hand drawings (plan, section/elevation, axonometric and perspectives.)
  • In addition to drawing and artistic abilities, student also should demonstrate good citizenship as members of the Landscape Architect Department of the School of Environmental Design of Temple University.
  • Student should be a current student member of the PA/DE Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
  • Student should have a minimum of 3.2 GPA.
  • Students must submit 3 – 5 large scale hand drawings for review by the end of January.
  • Three students will be nominated by the Temple University’s School of Environmental Design faculty.
  • The Award recipient will be chosen by a panel of landscape architects nominated by the PA/DE Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and will include at least one Temple University SED department representative on the selection panel of three.
  • Amount: Annual Scholarship of $500.

JOHN COLLINS SCHOLARSHIP

  • Scholarship for Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors in their junior year, with financial need, who demonstrate strong leadership ability and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Questions regarding this scholarship should be directed to Linda Palmarozza in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at 267-468-8175.
  • Amount: $500 award.
  • Eligibility: Landscape Architecture and Horticulture majors in their junior year (one from each discipline). The Landscape Architecture student must submit a design project. The Horticulture student must submit an example of their work done during their courses at Ambler.

LARKIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance for Horticulture and Landscape Architecture majors at Temple University Ambler for a resident of Anne Arundel County, Maryland (preferred), or the State of Maryland, based on financial need.

  • Amount: Typical annual award of $2,000. Renewable.

  • Eligibility: Residents of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. In lieu of no students from Anne Arundel County, students from the State of Maryland may apply.

JANE R. MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance for students of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture based on academic achievement.

PETER G. SCHLOTTERER ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance provided to Horticulture or Landscape Architecture students from the southeastern Pennsylvania or adjacent area, who expect to enter the profession of either environmental preservation or landscape restoration. Based on scholarship and financial need.

  • Amount: Three annual scholarships of $1,000 each.

  • Eligibility: Junior or Senior Horticulture or Landscape Architecture major living in southeastern Pennsylvania region.

SOLOMON SCHOLARSHIP FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

  • Tuition assistance provided to an incoming freshman student with financial need who enrolls in the Department of Landscape Architecture. Preference is given to minority female students.

  • Amount: Typical annual scholarship of $2,000 per semester. Renewable up to four years.
  • Eligibility: Matriculated or Non-degree seeking (non-matriculated) students who are registered for at least six credit hours in the Department of Landscape Architecture.

THE EUGENE UDELL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition assistance for an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Landscape Architecture and/or Horticulture who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need, selected by the School of Environmental Design faculty.
  • Amount: Annual Scholarship of $1,000.
