Temple University Ambler is a campus whose foundation has been connected to sustainable concepts and environmental stewardship for nearly a century.

In June 2000, the Temple University Board of Trustees formally recognized Ambler College as an academic unit of the University. This designation provides Ambler College with the ability to plan and develop unique programs consistent with its mission. Ambler College is home to the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture and the Department of Community and Regional Planning, with plans for future programs to be housed under the College umbrella.

The mission of Ambler College is the enhancement of the relationship between individuals, social patterns, and political systems and the natural, built, and cultural environments of contemporary life. Ambler College upholds the environmental traditions established by the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women and carried forward by our founding Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture. As Temple University’s 17th college, our commitment is to the health of communities, the preservation and appreciation of the natural and historical landscape, and the recognition of the connections between the natural and constructed worlds.

Which Ambler Is It?

Ambler Borough
A government municipality located 15 miles north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ambler Borough is a friendly, small town covering less than a square mile in area with a stable population of 6,400. Its affordable housing, great schools, churches, convenient public transportation accessibility, municipal parks and recreation facilities, and a “walkable” downtown commercial district make it an ideal place to work and live.

Ambler Campus
Just 35 minutes from the Main Campus on North Broad Street and a few minutes north of Ambler Borough, Temple’s suburban Ambler campus serves a current enrollment of more than 3,000 students. Through courses taught by Temple faculty from nearly every school and college in the University, students can now complete 21 bachelor’s degree programs on the sprawling 187-acre campus. Over 13,000 Temple alumni have completed more than 50 percent of their total course work at Ambler.

Ambler College
Founded in 2000, Ambler College is an academic unit of Temple University on par with the College of Education or the College of Liberal Arts. Serving a current enrollment of more than 270 students, Ambler College encompasses the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, the Department of Community and Regional Planning, the Landscape Arboretum, and the Center for Sustainable Communities. The College, which now offers courses at Temple’s Main, Center City, and Harrisburg campuses, has graduated more than 1,400 Temple alumni to date.
