Russell H. Conwell Society "The
first essential to progress in any department of human experience is to
have something worth living for and to have something of value to give
to the world."
Russell H. Conwell, Founder of Temple University Russell H. Conwell, an orator, writer, educator, and Baptist minister, founded Temple with the mission of providing quality education to all who endeavor to learn, regardless of economic status. The Conwell Society is named in honor of the University's founder and first president, and functions on the principles that were the driving force behind his mission. Contributors to the Conwell Society take quiet pride in the circumstances that permit their association with Temple University. For those who are able, there is no higher calling than the work of philanthropy. For those who participate, there is no finer way to render thanks and service to their University. Benefits of Membership The Conwell Recognition Dinner is held annually to recognize those individuals whose dedication to the University has surpassed all others. The dinner is an evening of entertainment and inspiration, culminating in the presentation of the Conwell Award. The award is presented to the single individual or couple who made the most outstanding annual contribution to the University. Conwell Society members receive recognition in the annual 2001-2002 Report of Gifts, an edition of which is delivered to all honorees, as well as posted on this web site. Finally, all Temple benefactors share one important reward for their gifts: the personal satisfaction of making an investment in human potential. Every gift made strengthens the University, as it helps carry out Temple's mission of superior teaching and research. In turn, your gift also strengthens the community as a whole, as Temple programs, facilities and graduates are better able to serve their community's needs. Membership is extended to benefactors at the following levels:
