MEET OUR STAFFAssociate Vice President Office of Multicultural Affairs Rhonda has been a direct report to 10 college presidents, serving in various capacities ranging from Special Assistant to the President, Interim Dean of Students, Affirmative Action Officer, Counsel, Director of Institutional Equity and Associate Vice President for Multicultural Affairs. "It’s odd to think of my career in terms of the institutions and presidents I’ve served. Each one was different and each one taught me a lesson that prepared me to do the job at hand." Rhonda started her academic career at her alma mater, Albright College. Albright is a small college, deeply rooted in liberal education. "My experience at Albright was the perfect combination of education, preparation and nurturing. My professors knew me and helped guide me. I consider myself especially fortunate that many of my college mentors were also my first administrative mentors." Tiffenia “Tiff” Archie, Ph.D., has worked in higher education for over 15 years, gaining experience in a number of departments, including financial aid, disability support, academic support, and minority retention. Most recently, Tiff worked in academic affairs where she served as an assistant dean. While Dean, Tiff also acted as an affirmative action representative where she collaborated closely with faculty search committees to increase the pool and hiring rate of women and minority candidates; work she continues as Director of Faculty Recruitment and Retention in the OMCA. Throughout her career, Tiff has been committed to advancing the ideal of multiculturalism through mentoring, training, program development, service, and teaching. She counts these activities among her hobbies. Tiff also enjoys sewing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Tiff has undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology and earned her doctorate in Sociology from Temple University. She resides in Brewerytown.
Tchet Dereic Dorman has a wide variety of experiences in higher education and community development, as a university professor, administrator, and community activist. Tchet has had numerous experiences with middle school, high school and undergraduate students as a professor/instructor/teacher, administrator, counselor, and advisor. He has been the director or assistant director of several educational programs designed to assist students in matriculating to and/or graduating from high school, college and graduate school while at Temple University, LeMoyne-Owen College (Memphis, Tennessee), Swarthmore (PA) College, the University of Pennsylvania, Albright College, the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, Vassar College, LaGuardia Community College, Oberlin College and Lebanon Valley College. Tchet achieved doctoral candidacy status in African American Studies at Temple University, where he also received his Master’s in African American Studies. The Office of Multicultural Affairs is the successor to Temple University’s Affirmative Action Office where Sandra started in 1973 and grew through successive positions with responsibility for University equal opportunity/affirmative action compliance. Sandra “Sandy” received her B.A. in Sociology from Beaver College and her M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. She joined Temple soon after graduating from Penn and was instrumental in developing Temple’s first affirmative action plans when the U. S. government wasn’t exactly sure what an affirmative action plan for a university would look like. The U. S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs recognized Temple’s affirmative action efforts with the presentation of the EVE (Exemplary Voluntary Efforts) Award in 1993. Temple University was the first university to receive such an honor. As division director Sandy continues to serve through the Associate Vice President for Multicultural Affairs as compliance officer for the University and advisor on affirmative action matters to Temple’s administration. “Ours is a collaborative, cooperative, aspiring and persistent effort for inclusion.”
Tracey has been with Temple University since 1997. As a graduate of Lincoln University, Tracey began her work experience with the federal government. In addition to working in private industry, Tracey adds to her experience, compliance responsibilities for city government prior to coming to Temple. Tracey started her Temple career as Coordinator in what was then referred to as the Office of Affirmative Action. Tracey offers experience in monitoring and reporting achievements in minority and female participation on capital construction projects, as well as oversight and coordination of training efforts for individuals interested in working in skilled and unskilled crafts. Her professional experience in compliance makes her an asset to the Affirmative Action Compliance and Investigation Division of Temple’s Office of Multicultural Affairs where she shares the responsibility for the University’s compliance, affirmative action efforts, as well as the investigation process for complaints of discrimination.
Associate Director
Assistant Director Carl S. Moore’s higher education experience dates back to his days as an undergraduate student leader at Kutztown University, where he served on the Executive Board and participated in a variety of organizations. As a student leader, he developed his passion for social justice and multiculturalism. It was during Carl’s graduate program in Higher Education Student Affairs at The Ohio State University that Carl chose to commit his life’s work promoting multicultural education and student success in the college arena. Equipped with student development theory and a rich experience in residence life and multicultural affairs from his masters program, Carl has worked in the following roles: Student Support Services Advisor and Upward Bound Math Science Coordinator at Kutztown University, Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment at Reading Area Community College, and as an Academic Advisor at Temple University. Concurrently, Carl has always enjoyed motivational speaking, teaching freshman enrichment courses, conducting diversity related workshops, and presenting at professional conferences. Carl was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is currently working on his Ph.D in Urban Education at Temple University. In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife Tia, learning about diverse spiritual systems.
Carl feels that “We are all the eyes of the CREATOR looking back at itself.” This allows him to see a little good in everyone on his lifelong mission to bring equality to all.
Administrative Specialist Sonia A. Moroz joined Temple University’s Office of Affirmative Action in 1973 upon her completion of the Jobs ’70 Training Program of Temple University. Sonia has been a loyal employee for more than 30 years. She provides administrative support for the Associate Vice President in the functioning of daily operations. Sonia maintains work flow as well as provides departmental budget oversight. She serves as liaison to various University departments. Sonia establishes and supervises maintenance of all files, records, logs and other data. She prepares and assists in the preparation of various reports and documents required by government and University officials, including statistical data. She assists in research, collection and preparation of data. Sonia maintains Affirmative Action resource materials. Sonia A. Moroz was nominated by her supervisors to the Excell Program of Temple University to acknowledge her service, caring and commitment to the University. Sonia received certificates of completion from the McCall School (English for Foreign Studies Program), Lincoln College Prep School, Job ’70 Training Program and Intensive English Language Program of Temple University, PC Concepts, Data Processing Training and the School of Paralegal Studies.
Tomas Sanchez, JD was born and raised in the shadow of Temple University, first living on 4th & Diamond Sts. then moving to the North Broad Street neighborhood of Logan. Tomas graduated from Central High School of Philadelphia before attending Harvard University where he studied Government. He is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Tomas has a wide range of experience in various sectors including the corporate, non-profit, and public arenas. Among other positions, he is a former Chief of Staff to a member of the City Council of Philadelphia, a founding member and Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and a Government Affairs Representative for PECO Energy. He was raised in a business family and has owned/operated business enterprises in the past. Tomas is a resident of Norris Square, is married to Maria Quinones Sanchez and is the proud parent of two children, Edgar and Tomasito.
Administrative Support Sandra Swain began her employment at Temple University in September 1998. She holds an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Pierce College and has received extensive secretarial and computer training at Temple and through previous employment at such companies as PECO, Sun Oil and Refining Company, and CoreStates Bank. Sandra provides administrative support for the Associate Vice President and OMCA leadership in the functioning of daily operations. She also supervises and processes payroll for the OMCA student workers. In addition to satisfying her daily duties, Sandra is continuing her education as a part-time Social Work major in the School of Social Administration at Temple University. In May of 2003, Sandra was presented the Isadore Wolfson Award for personal and academic achievement from Temple University’s Russell Conwell Educational Services Center. She is also a member of the Intellectual Heritage Society of Temple University, and the proud mother of one daughter, Cierra.
