- Either FMA 102, The Production of Media Culture
- OR JPRA 055, Intro to Mass Media
Plus at least five courses from the following list:

Plus a senior thesis or fieldwork option (This capstone course is to be taken in either SCAT or CLA and arranged with an ACMA-affiliated faculty member)
These courses total a minimum of 36 credits required for the major. Students may petition for "topics" courses in either SCAT or CLA to count as substitute for certain requirements.
Students also may occasionally petition for other courses to count toward the degree, but permission of the director is required.
